TUNISIAONLINENEWS- President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali delivered on Monday the following address to the members of the Central Committee of the Democratic Constitutional Rally (RCD) gathered on the occasion of their 2 nd ordinary session.
”In the name of God, the Merciful and the Compassionate,
RCD activists,
I am pleased to meet with you at the closing of the second ordinary session of the RCD central committee since the ”congress of challenge”.
This occasion is of special significance, in that it coincides today with the anniversary of the glorious events of January, 18, 1952, which represented a decisive turning point in the epic of armed revolution against colonisation in our country, ushering in a new stage in our people’s advancement toward independence.
On this occasion, we express our deep reverence and veneration to our valorous martyrs.
We also commend the significant role, generous sacrifices and great deeds of the leaders of national struggle, in the forefront of whom the late leader Habib Bourguiba.
Special tribute should also be paid to our freedom- fighters who are still pursuing with us the action of militancy.
I avail myself of this occasion to convey my greetings to you and to all the RCD activists, men and women, at home and abroad. I also wish to commend the efforts you exert so that our party remains always active and outstanding, assuming its national mission with enthusiasm and a high sense of militancy.
I would like to thank you for the motion emanating from your meeting, in which you express feelings of faithfulness and allegiance, as well as your commitment to our choices, and your willingness to pursue hard work and generous action so as to reach the sought level of prosperity and well-being.
This session is of special importance, given the dynamism our country is witnessing in all fields since the presidential and legislative elections of October, 25, 2009, which we were keen to make sure they constituted an advanced step in the national democratic process we are pursuing with strong will and ever- renewed determination.
We are indeed fully satisfied with the success of these elections at all stages, especially in terms of sound organisation, transparency, respect for the law, adherence to the rules of democratic practice, and the high voter turnout which reflects the sense of awareness, citizenship and responsibility deeply anchored in all members of our people.
We also express, once again, that we are deeply proud of the results of these presidential and legislative elections.
These results were very telling, in that they affirmed the adherence of all Tunisian men and women to our choices and to our policy of continuous reform, as well as their reliance on our prestigious party, the democratic constitutional rally, the party of liberation; the party of the present and of the future.
